Chasing waterfalls in our National Parks

Our national parks are home to lush rainforests, abundant wildlife and some truly captivating waterfalls. Here are seven of our favourites, all within reach of Balgal Beach.

Mt Halifax

Just near Balgal Beach Motel, a 25-minute walk takes in four falls: Gorge Falls, Rope Falls, Bridal Falls and Loop Falls. Cool off with a swim in the waterholes, and on the way home stop at the Rollingstone Creek lagoons, only a five-minute drive away.

Jourama Falls

In Paluma Range National Park, Jourama’s tiered falls tumble through the rainforest, with well-maintained walking tracks and a freshwater pool perfect for a swim.

Little Crystal Creek Falls

Accessible via the road to Paluma Village, a picturesque heritage bridge leads to falls with crystal-clear waters flowing over granite rocks.

Big Crystal Creek Falls

At the base of Paluma National Park and connected to Little Crystal Creek, Big Crystal Creek is home to the Rock Slides — nature’s own slippery slide.

Zoe Falls

In Hinchinbrook National Park, along the famous Thorsborne Trail, Zoe Falls spills into a pristine pool ringed by rainforest.

Mulligan Falls

On the southern side of Hinchinbrook Island, this remote gem requires a boat journey — cascades descend the rugged cliffs into a beautiful swimming hole.

Wallaman Falls

Australia’s highest permanent single drop waterfall, in Girringun National Park, drops a breathtaking 268 metres from Stony Creek. Surrounded by World Heritage rainforest, it offers walking tracks with spectacular gorge views.
